The most controversial link in the family tree is his eldest son-in-law PV Sreenijin. His political links with the Congress has come in as an extra embarrassment for the former chief justice of India.
This after the CPM government launched a vigilance enquiry.
His assets grew from around four lakh rupees to over six crores rupees. There is also a charge that even this is undervalued.
His second son-in-law Advocate Benny has been accused of purchasing prime land over 80 lakh rupees in the last two years with his annual income being just Rs 6 lakhs.
There is no direct evidence pointing to his role in the series of revelations against his sons-in-law.
The question however remains did KG Balakrishnan’s family misuse his name and office to amass wealth disproportionate to their assets.
On Wednesday Sreenijin resigned from the Youth Congress.
The Youth Congress has asked for an explanation.
Rizwan Arshad, National Secratary, Youth Congress said, “Anybody facing allgeations should come out clean in public eye”.
With the surround sound for Justice Balakrishnan to quit as NHRC chief growing, being defiant will no longer be good enough.
